The Policy Lab

Our Policy Lab develops research projects to analyze the conditions of environmental and sustainability policy in Latin America, with a particular focus in Central America during 2021, due to the high vulnerability of the region. Based on this landscape research and the data produced by our Hydroclimatology and Water Justice Labs we will develop and disseminate new knowledge to promote sustainable practices.

Currently, our Policy Lab has three focus areas:

  • We are conducting background research on commitments and progress of the SDG’s and the Agenda 2030.
  • We are conducting background research on the areas of climate ethics, justice, and policy
  • A sub-unit, the sustainable economies unit, led by an environmental engineer, conducts analysis is developing educational offerings on sustainable approaches to economic processes, including implementation of industrial ecology, life cycle analysis, circular economies, and green economies programs.

Our Policy Lab will generate important qualitative inputs to our two other labs to inform the development of quantitative analysis informed by local realities. We will combine research, data development, and policy analysis to educate and inform societies to promote sustainable solutions to climate change challenges. Our team members also have a history of collaboration with universities in Latin America and in Guatemala and El Salvador, in particular.

Region360 can also leverage its skillset to provide research services to partners seeking to bridge the US-Latin American cultural, academic, and policy gaps. Our policy lab has expertise in policy and social science research methods and broad experience conducting qualitative fieldwork and research in the region. In addition, our Sustainable Economies Unit can provide consulting services for the development of LCA and environmental footprint analysis for small and large scale enterprises.

POLICY RESEARCH & EDUCATION

SDG’s and Agenda 2030

We are conducting a comprehensive mapping analysis of the state of SDG and Agenda 2030 implementation to develop awareness of policy mechanisms, policy analysis, and actionable educational materials for the social sector.

Climate Justice and Ethics

We are conducting background research on the ethical dimensions of climate change interventions and their impact on vulnerable communities. We seek to develop nuanced analysis of the ethical implations climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts to support the work of local groups and communities.

SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIES

Industrial ecology and & Life Cycle Analysis

Our LCT unit is currently preparing to deploy a comprehensive set of services and evaluation techniques aimed at developing awareness regarding environmental challenges. At the core of a life cycle approach, we have a comprehensive toolkit of environmental assessment techniques and methods used to evaluate environmental impact and performance throughout the lifecycle of a product or service.

Training for Sustainable Approaches

We are currently developing a portfolio of online courses and workshops to provide ad-hoc training solutions for the social, public, and private sectors on contemporary approaches to sustainable processes. We can provide tailored training in the following frameworks:

Industrial Ecology

Life Cycle Assessment

Clean Production

Circular Economy

Green Economies

Region360 is a project of the Environic Foundation International (EFI) in Washington, DC. EFI enjoys special consultative status with UN’s ECOSOC and is a member of the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).
